ONO Fun & BPC Finalist

Haven’t blogged in a while. No excuse really.

Garrett and I are staying busy. I’m staying busy at work at ONO. My company is growing so quickly. It’s been interesting seeing the company grow and hire so many people. There’s good and bad things about that. Good: Lots of new fun people to work with. More benefits- Free lunches every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Bad: More processes. We’re becoming very formal in the way we go about things. It’s hard to get things done. Growing pains I guess. I spend a large portion of my time doing more managerial things like building processes and trying to justify every decision. (Picture to the left is of all the IT nerds playing Street Fighter II...classic)

We still have fun. Last Friday, my boss Andrew sent out an email to everyone announcing a wheelchair race at the end of the day. There are two guys in my office that broke their foot, so we have 2 wheelchairs. And of course that warrants the need for a wheelchair race. I volunteered to enter the race, but I was mad when they put me against my friend, Troy. Troy in a 6’ 6’’ basketball player with crazy long arms and is super athletic. But somehow I BEAT HIM. It was AWESOME! I lost in future rounds, but I was proud to be one of the big upsets of the bracket.

Garrett is busy with soccer. He gets up every morning for practice at 6:30. Tryouts are next week. There are about 40ish guys competing for 24 spots. It is a long shot to make the team since he’s been injured since October with a sports hernia. But he just recently started getting back into it. The team lifts twice a week. Two weeks ago they had their tests for agility, speed, vertical and then a body competition test. Garrett was the only play on the team who ranked in the top 3 for each of them. J He got 1st on the agility test and tested at 4% body fat… I know… that’s not really healthy. The coach wanted an average of 7% of the team, and I think he was pretty disappointed when the average was 12%. What do you expect when you’re working with some RMs right out of the field.

Anyway, Gar is really dedicated and a very hard worker. He’s working on getting his touch back and game where it was a few months ago. The good news is, Garrett is probably the most naturally athletic person on the team. I think it says a lot that he is coming off an injury and is still one of the, if not THE most fit and athletic people on the team. So, keep Garrett in your prayers next week with tryouts.

In other news, I went to get my body composition tested as well and left depressed. But I’m working on it. I’ve had some knee problems that have kept me from running as much as I like to, so I’m stuck on an elliptical.

Garrett is taking 12 credits right now. He only has to go to 2 classes and usually only has one class one Mon., Wed., Thurs. and no classes Tuesday and Friday. He spends a lot of his time working on his website garrettgee.me and his new venture QRCodeCity.com. Garrett entered his business into the BYU Business Plan Competition and he is now a semi-finalist. There were 8 companies selected. He was SO excited when he found out. (Picture on right is when he found out he was a semi-finalist) Mainly becuase he stayed up all night on Valentines Day trying to put together a business plan by himself. He was so stoked when he found out he was a semi-finalist. The winner gets $50,000, 2nd and 3rd place get $30k and $20k. His business is really taking off right now (over 70k downloads on his app) and I think he has a great shot of winning it. He has no shortage of new clients and projects for Capital G Design. He’s currently working on Business Premier League which will be a business soccer league sponsored by Lifetime Fitness this summer.
